Exports of Greek tomatoes to European countries have recorded a 148% increase in the past year. The messages are very optimistic on the future of tomato exports, since most European countries seem to prefer the Greek product instead of its competitors.
In 2010 Greece exported 4,189 tons of tomatoes to countries of the EU, while in 2011 the exports reached 10,392 tons.
At the same time, Greek tomato exports to other countries have shown a decrease in numbers, a drop estimated to be around 31%.
According to Eurostat data, Greek products are becoming a major point of attraction for foreign importers despite the current economic crisis plaguing the country.
