Greek GDP 75% of EU Average

In 2012, the average per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Greece reached 75 percent of the correspondent average per capita GDP in the European Union, according to data released by Eurostat on June 19. In 2012, the average GDP in the EU member-states varied from 47 percent to 271 percent in comparison with the European average.

The highest per capita GDP was recorded in Luxemburg (271 percent). Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands and Sweden surpass the average per capita GDP of the EU by 30 percent. Denmark, Germany, Belgium and Finland exceed the EU average GDP by 15 to 25 percent, while the United Kingdom and France surpass it by 10 percent.

Slightly beyond the European level stood the per capita GDP in Italy (98 percent) and Spain (97 percent). In Cyprus, the per capita GDP reached 91 percent of the average rate in Europe, while in Malta, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece and Portugal it stood between 75 percent and 85 percent of the EU average rate.

In Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary and Latvia the average per capita GDP stood between 60 and 70 percent compared to the EU level, while the lowest rates were recorded by Romania (49 percent) and Bulgaria (48 percent).
